About Us

I am an Island Girl by way of my parents that emigrated (legally) to the US from the tiny Caribbean island of St. Martin, FWI (SXM).

I was born and raised on Lond Island, New York with lots of time in SXM and Fenwick Island, DE.  

That's where the 'ISLAND' comes from.  'DSIGN' isn't misspelled, Design was already taken, and since I predominantly make SIGNS, I went with it,

Lastly, in my mind I'll always be the little 'GIRL' at Friars or Mullet Bay. 

My Dad was a master woodworker and my Mom was a skilled seamstress and generally crafty.  I grew up in our family woodworking business and inherited a love of woodworking and all things creative.  Island Girl DSign is a tribute to my parents and my beautiful childhood.

I enjoy every aspect of crafting from finding reclaimed wood (or buying new) cutting, sanding, painting, sewing and creating a rustic sign or home accent.  I love the design and creative ability of choosing what to do with each piece and the freedom to create one of a kind items.  A self-proclaimed beachoholic, beach themed items are my favorites.
